Concept Development

Innovation secures the future
Drive development is a very competitive market. Lawmakers demand lower emissions and consumption. At the same time, customer expectations are constantly increasing where comfort and driving dynamics are concerned. The MS Powertrain Technology Group translates its own ideas as well as its customers' visions innovatively and uncompromisingly into marketable products. A consistent and structured development process results in products that are impressive not only in cost terms.

Basic Concept Development
From vision to reality. Future-oriented, we create innovative concepts and implement them. Due to the combination of many years of expertise in manufacturing and independent, creative design, we make our contribution to our customers' future viability.

Product benchmark
In order to develop a product in line with the market, we carry out benchmark analyses. Depending on the case, diverse attributes are examined, ranging from the function and tasks of the product and the technologies and materials used to the production processes and product costs. This comprehensive study includes marketable products as well as patented principles and systems as part of the pre-development phase.

Actual design
In order to best develop a product for the application, the functional structure is first determined. Starting from this abstract base completely open-ended solution principles are created. These solution principles are evaluated using objective methods. This structured and transparent development process is quite normal for us, and leads to the best possible product approaches.

Package examination
From the abstract to the concrete: According to this principle, the first three-dimensional data is generated - based on the results of the functional structure and the solution principle. To integrate the product optimally into the vehicle and to guarantee its functionality, the MS Powertrain Technology Group checks and agrees on interfaces. In the following steps, functionality and assembly simulations are carried out to match the product optimally to the existing installation space.

Feasibility study
In order to secure the success of a product, verification studies are carried out in the early development phase. These studies include, among others, functionality guarantees, production-oriented product design, and value analysis.

Calculation and simulation

Topology optimization
At the MS Powertrain Technology Group, mass and stiffness optimization creates the foundation for excellent products. Using topology optimization, a finite element method, the material is utilized optimally. With this innovative development tool we ensure that the product produces the best results in terms of mass and stiffness.

Multibody simulation (MBS)
The multibody simulation is focused on dynamic valve train development. Here, we use it as an indispensable development tool. In multibody simulation, the entire system is dynamically simulated, from the cam and the force-transmitting components to the valve. Based on the physical results, the cam contour, valve springs and also any return springs are created or designed.

Strength and stiffness calculation
By calculating the component strength or system strength, we analyze whether the component can withstand the required loads. The stiffness calculation includes a modal analysis, during which natural frequencies and individual modes are analyzed. With this information, the component can still be adapted to customer needs and development goals early on in the development process - and be optimized with respect to mass and stiffness.

Mathematical Calculation
In the product development process, in addition to the strength and stiffness calculation, we also use a variety of other calculations depending on the specific component. For example, we consider connecting and sealing elements, temperature influences in conjunction with parameters and tolerances, dynamically liberated flow cross-sections of the valve plate - and much more.

Detailing

Component Development
We understand component development to mean the elaboration of a single component taking into account development needs and objectives. With the experience and expertise of our employees, and supported by advanced simulation tools, we ensure customer- and requirement-oriented product development.

Module Development
In module and system development, there is less of a focus on the individual component and much more on the interaction of the whole assembly and its optimum design. For best system results and optimal customer satisfaction, the MS Powertrain Technology Group takes over design, detailing, calculation and simulation for the customer, as well as coordination of suppliers and development partners.

System Integration
Whether single components or entire modules: Every detail has to be right. That is why we reliably consider all requirements regarding space and interfaces during system integration. We also consider other parameters such as maintenance and repair-friendliness - with consistent use of synergy effects with other components of the overall system.

Drafting
To complete the product construction process, we apply our long-standing manufacturing experience in a manufacturing and testability drawing. The component is described fully and clearly, based on low-cost, lean manufacturing methods. Customized drawing requirements are of course incorporated as well.

Bench testing

Function testing
In addition to our own component test benches, we cooperate with experienced and well-equipped partners. As a result we can, for instance, take over the function testing of cooling systems, variable valve train systems or crank drive systems – with regard to friction and wear behavior, lubrication, oil, crankshaft operation or storage. We are of course also happy to meet your individual requirements and to discuss practical implementation.

Endurance testing
In cooperation with established endurance testing specialists, we are able to offer a complete package consisting of engine and powertrain assembly, test execution, and results evaluation. From the results of endurance testing, we derive recommendations for system optimization.

Ansys
For successful development, a powerful "finite element system" is indispensable. Powerful hardware and software enables us to solve even complex tasks in high quality.

MathCad
During the development process numerous calculations arise that are not allocated to the "finite element method." For mathematical and physical tasks we work with the software Mathcad. This software offers a clear and comprehensible structure to support development documentation.

Certification

Unlike many other development service providers, we are certified according to DIN ISO/TS 16949, DIN ISO 9001, DIN ISO 14001 and DIN ISO 50001. This demonstrates a high degree of structure, data security, documentation transparency and development transparency.

Communication

Since almost all our workstations are equipped with web meeting software and conference phones, an exchange in teams is also possible. Our ultra-modern meeting rooms enable integration of not only an audio but also a video conference system. This advanced equipment is the best way to guarantee the information flow.
